To comprehensively summarize the achievements and lessons learned from the Shenzhen University delegation's participation in the 12th Guangdong Provincial University Games, and to further enhance the development and management level of the university's sports teams, the School of Physical Education held a work conference on the Guangdong Provincial University Games summary and sports team development at the meeting room of Yuanping Gymnasium on June 19, 2025. School leaders, the Competition and Training Management Office, and all coaches attended the meeting. The conference was chaired by Professor Zhang Debao, Vice Dean of the School of Physical Education.
Professor Deng Wanjin, Secretary-General of our university's sports delegation and Director of the Competition and Training Office, reported on the basic situation of the university delegation and the competition results at the Universiade, providing an objective analysis of the current status of our university's sports teams. At the 12th Guangdong Provincial University Games, Shenzhen University sent a delegation consisting of 296 coaches and athletes, participating in competitions across three categories: Group A (regular undergraduate students), Group B1 (sports major students), and Group B2 (high-level athletes and sports single-admission students), covering a total of 9 major events.
At this provincial university games, Shenzhen University athletes achieved outstanding results, securing 31 gold, 23 silver, and 17 bronze medals. The university was awarded the titles of "Excellent Organization Unit" and "Sportsmanship Award Delegation." Additionally, the team excelled in overall points, earning second-place awards in Group A, Group B1, and Group B2. Swimming, table tennis, and other events emerged as the main contributors to Shenzhen University's gold medal tally.

The sports teams of Shenzhen University have flourished in recent years, now encompassing four major categories: the professional sports training group, the high-level sports team, the sports major group, and the general college student group. These teams cover over 30 sports disciplines, including golf, swimming, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, basketball, tennis, track and field, martial arts, pickleball, rope skipping, orienteering, cheerleading, shuttlecock, fencing, sports dance, baseball/softball, and taekwondo. Since the establishment of the School of Physical Education, the teams have been highly active in international, national, and provincial competitions, achieving remarkable results in certain disciplines and demonstrating rapid growth in emerging sports. However, when viewed holistically in the current sports meet, Shenzhen University still lags significantly behind traditional sports powerhouses in the province, such as Jinan University and Sun Yat-sen University, in terms of total medals and gold medals in Group A and Group B Division A. The university's strengths remain relatively concentrated, and the competitiveness of some disciplines requires further improvement.
This conference serves not only as a summary of past glories but also as a starting point toward new goals. All sports teams should draw motivation from their outstanding performance in the provincial university games, benchmark against top performers, identify gaps, and elevate training standards to strive for greater breakthroughs in future competitions. By doing so, they will bring higher honors to the university and contribute to the thriving development of its sports programs.
